Three first half goals helped Renfrew defeat East Kilbride Thistle 3-1 to leave
Leading 3-0 at half time the game looked over however East Kilbride Thistle missed some big chances in the second half to rescue a draw.
Renfrew’s intent was shown in the first minute of the game when Ryan McGregor managed to get a shot away from the edge of the box however his shot was over the bar.
East Kilbride Thistle had an early chance when good build up play led to Dallas being played through however his shot was straight at the keeper.
Renfrew began to take control of the game and after twenty nine minutes it was 1-0.
Chris Zok found space in the Thistle box and after drawing in three defenders to himself he cut the ball across to Willie Sawyers to tap in to give Renfrew the lead.
A few minutes later Renfrew scored their second. Anton Smith was allowed to roam down the wing and his cross found Chris Zok in the box who headed past Graeme Lynn in the thistle goal to make it 2-0.
Thistle nearly pulled one back straight away however Steven Chaplain’s shot from range flew just wide of the post.
Anton Smith nearly made it 3-0 when his shot from range deflected past everyone in the box towards the bottom corner however Graeme Lynn saved well to keep Thistle in the game.
Just before half time Renfrew did make it 3-0. Renfrew’s midfield nicked possession in the middle of the park and the ball was quickly played across to Chris Zok. Lynn came out to block the ball however Zok chipped the ball over Lynn to Ryan McGregor who had the easy job of putting the ball into the empty net to make it 3-0.
East Kilbride Thistle started the second half better than the first and nearly pulled a goal back when Liam Sloan was played through on goal however he took too many touches and Ian Wilson in the Renfrew goal was able to come out and claim the ball.
Thistle were given a chance to get back into the match when they were awarded a penalty after Ally Morgan was accidentally kicked in the face however Liam Sloan missed the resulting penalty, putting it over the bar.
With twelve minutes to go Thistle pulled one back.A Thistle corner was flicked on to Liam Sloan who flicked the ball into the net to make it 3-1.
Thistle were looking more dangerous however nearly lost another goal when Scott Upton’s powerful shot looked to be flying in to the top corner however Lynn pulled off a great save to tip the ball wide.
Thistle nearly made it 3-2 when a defensive mix up in the Renfrew box left Thistle sub Zander McMillan free in the box however he put his shot wide and Renfrew held on to pick up a big 3-1 win which keeps them competing for promotion while leaving Thistle still having to secure their safety sitting one place above the relegation zone.
