Glenafton Athletic went top of the league after seeing off a spirited East Kilbride Thistle side 2-0.
The loss saw Thistle drop into the relegation zone however have a few games in hand over their relegation rivals.
East Kilbride Thistle nearly made the perfect start when Chris Dallas cut in the Glenafton box after a run down the wing and managed to get a shot away however his shot flew across the goal and wide with nobody able to touch it in the net.
Glenafton managed to take control of the game and Gareth Armstrong thought he had given them the lead after a powerful shot from the edge of the box however Graeme Lynn in the Thistle goal pulled off a great save to tip the ball over the bar.
Armstrong nearly scored again with a header from the edge of the box however it flew just wide of the post.
Graeme Dempsey had to go off injured for Thistle and was replaced by Zander McMillan who almost set up a goal as soon as he came on.
McMillan won the ball in the middle of the park and passed the ball out wide, Liam Sloan managed to find Paul Bain at the back post with his cross however Bain fired over the bar.
Two minutes later Thistle were left to rue the miss as Glenafton went ahead. After Glenafton pressure in the Thistle box the ball was cleared but only as far as John Paul Boyle who angled his shot past the keeper and into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 Glenafton.
Thistle nearly pulled one back when a corner found Steven Chaplain in space and his header was on target however it was cleared off the line by Paul McKenzie.
Up the other end of the pitch McKenzie nearly scored a wonder goal from range however Lynn was equal to the shot and managed to punch it clear.
Glenafton nearly doubled their lead in a crazy last few minutes of the half.
A Glenafton corner was punched clear by Lynn to the halfway line and was hit straight back in the box by Gareth Campbell but his cross/shot hit the post and was cleared but only as far as the wing and the cross back into the box was met by a Robbie Henderson header however Lynn pulled off a great save to tip the ball away to keep the score at 1-0 going into half time.
Thistle played better in the second half however couldn’t turn possession into goals. McMillan came closest to scoring with a shot from range that flew over the bar.
Glenafton nearly made it 2-0 when McKenzie was played through on goal however his shot flew wide as Thistle were let off.
With seven minutes to go it was 2-0 Glenafton. Michael Smith who was the best player on the park in this game made his only mistake of the game as his mistimed pass found Colligan through on goal however his shot was blocked by Lynn but only as far as sub Ian Cashmore who tapped it in to make it 2-0 and kill off the game.
Thistle nearly pulled one back when Chris Dallas after great play down the wing, cut in and found Liam Sloan in space however Ally Semple in the Glenafton goal saved well as Glenafton held on to pick up a big win as Thistle dropped into the relegation zone.
